You are ready to consider returning to work

Informing your employer

Ongoing communication with your healthcare team and your employer through all stages is critical as you prepare to return to work. As you get closer to going back to work, it is crucial that all parties understand your current work abilities and limitations. This understanding will help you plan your return to work, such as preparing your workplace for your return. Usually, the decision that you are ready to return to work is made with your doctor.

Your doctor will likely be asked to complete a letter indicating that you are indeed ready. This letter can also be a “fitness to return to work” form indicating that you are ready to return on a specified date. It will be helpful for your doctor to write out your restrictions and limitations to advise the employer of potential accommodations for which they should plan.
