Assertiveness: More honest and balanced relationships

Assertiveness is sometimes referred to as “balanced self-determinism.” It involves learning to express oneself in an honest and direct manner, acknowledging and giving time for other points of view, adopting a relaxed (vs intense) approach, and ultimately feeling good about the encounter.

The Survivor section of this website has an excellent article on steps toward assertiveness – communication guidelines.

Learning to communicate needs, using “I” messages, being clear about boundaries, strengths, and limitations, will all contribute to a successful transition back to work.
