Returning to work is communication and teamwork

Talking about plans to return to work: Engaging the patient, healthcare team, insurance company and employer

Discussing return to work early on with your patients, other healthcare providers and employers gives time to address the concerns of all involved when looking at options for a return to work. Planning collaboratively will more likely result in a successful return to work. The healthcare provider role in the planning process can involve:

  • assessing and providing information about the survivor’s current abilities
  • anticipating challenges and discussing how to address them
  • monitoring the survivor’s progress after return to work
  • addressing any new or ongoing challenges
