Employment standards law

Each province or territory has its own employment standards law. These laws cover:

  • Minimum wages
  • Maximum working hours
  • Required breaks
  • Overtime pay
  • Minimum vacation leave
  • Statutory holidays
  • Severance payments
  • Other working conditions

Employment standards entitle employees to certain types of leave (for example, sick leave and parental leave). For more details on employment standards law, view a list of employment standards departments across Canada.
