Analysing the characteristics of an employee’s job will help the employee’s healthcare team understand the job demands. Healthcare providers can then compare these characteristics to the employee’s work abilities to determine the employee’s readiness to return to work or what further rehabilitation is needed, as well as to recommend limitations, restrictions and workplace accommodations.
Job characteristics include:
- physical demands required for the job duties
- temperaments required
- psychological and cognitive demands
- environmental variables involved in the job
- hours of work (actual hours and time of day)
